Is everyone around you telling you look tired today…and you really don’t feel tired? Well it may be how your eyes look to others.

Concerned about hooding in your brow or crepe-looking skin under your eyes ? Extra skin around your eyes, wrinkles, dull looking skin, hollows around eyes, dark circles, or loose skin?

Most of these issues can now be addressed without surgery ( the so called blepharoplasty).

Depending on your specific problem, usually the most effective treatment is delivered by a combination approach. At a minimum, most individuals looking for eye rejuvenation need either Botox or Dysport to relax the muscles around the eyes. Then your doctor can determine what next step best suits you. If you have tissue loss or dark circles around your eyes, then your treatment most likely involves receiving soft tissue fillers under local anesthesia. This is an office procedure done in under one hour.

If there is too much wrinkling, saggy and extra skin around your eyes, or hooding of your eyebrows, then you may likely benefit from non-invasive skin tightening around your eyes. This may be either with a laser, or skin tightening with a radiofrequency device. The choice depends on your specific needs, acceptance of social downtime, and also contra indications you may have for one versus the other. These procedures are not restricted to the area around the eyes, and can be extended to  the entire face, neck, decollete, hands, etc. If you choose  to have an eye rejuvenation with laser, then a specific laser called fractional CO2 is likely your best choice. The treatment is done after application of a numbing cream for at least an hour. The area around your eye is also treated to tighten the skin around it and produce the desired effect, called Bright Lift ( a.k.a. Madonna Lift). This treatment is very versatile, and can be done on the eyelid itself as well, if you have loose eyelid skin. A pair of laser corneal shields are general used after instilling numbing drops in your eyes, to protect against accidental exposure to the laser. This is also an office procedure done in under one hour. The recovery from this treatment is usually within one week, during which the skin around your eyes looks sunburned. But the eventual effect make this period worth it. Depending on how severe your problem is, you may need one or two additional treatments at 8-week intervals.

The treatment with radiofrequency almost carries the same results, with the exception that most radiofrequency devices can not be used on the globe of the eye, and they generally need more than one weekly treatment.

Keep in mind that these treatments are not permanent, and as our bodies keep on aging, the rejuvenative effect of these treatments also tends to fade away with time. Think of it as a car-maintenance program: You change the oil now, but you will need to do it again in a few thousand miles!
