WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS USED FOR?

There are lines and depressions in the face that can not be corrected with Botox and Dysport, such as hollows under the eyes, smile lines, and deflated lips and cheeks. Dermal fillers fill those spaces and give you the plump youthful appearance that’s lost with aging. Our focus is to give you the most natural looking, yet subtle enhancement or reversal of signs of aging with dermal fillers.

In the past, we mostly used Restylane and Perlane for improving the appearance of smile lines (nasolabial folds), and lines extending from the corners of the mouth(Marionette lines) as well as lip enhancement. With newer advances, other fillers have been continually added to that lineup, each with its own advantages and characteristics. Among the fillers we use are the entire lineup of the Juvederm family of fillers, as well as Restylane, and Versa.

Today, a new trend of injecting one’s own fat that has been processed with uniform fat particle size, enriched with your own platelets and growth factors, has become popular. It is known as autologous fat grafting, or lipofilling. This is particularly successful for hands, breasts, and under the eyes. Not a fat of undergoing a mini/full liposuction to harvest the fat? Then you can explore RENUVA, which is purified donated fat to add to the volume where you need it.

There is another solution for smaller volume enhancement or reshaping of the face: the dermal filler that lasts at least 5 years: Bellafill.

Bellafill is a revolutionary dermal filler that lasts over 5 years. It is a combination of Bovine collagen and the synthetic molecule PMMA. It is the PMMA part that causes long-lasting results, as it stimulates new collagen formation, leading to enhanced soft tissue volume and improved skin texture. It is not to be used for individuals with beef allergies or injected into the lips. It is also recommended for the correction of certain types of acne scars. In strategic places, it acts and feels like an implant without the downsides of surgery. These locations include the chin and the nose, among others. The results are natural, extra-long lasting, and smooth.

Juvederm Ultra XC, Ultra Plus XC, Volbella, and Vollure:  These are very refined hyaluronic acid products (that are naturally found in connective tissue at lower concentrations). The duration of effect can be up to 1.5 years. Today, Volbella and Vollure have supplanted earlier fillers as the results are smoother and longer-lasting without lumpiness. Vollure is mostly used for lip volume and shape correction, and Volbella is used for lip volume, contour, smokers lines, and also the correction of under-eye hollows.

Juvederm Voluma, as well as Restylane Lyft are the most cohesive among hyaluronic acid fillers. They are very condensed and don’t change their shape much after injection ( unless molded and massaged aggressively). They are mostly injected into the cheekbones and temples to correct the lost volume and flattened cheekbones (resulting in sagging cheeks and rolling of the skin over the smile lines). It lasts 18-24 months. The advantage of these fillers is that if you are not happy with the results, they can be dissolved with the enzyme Hyaluronidase easily and quickly.

Restylane Defyne, Refyne, Silk, and Lyft: Also among Hyaluronic acid fillers. Defyne and Refyne are unique in that they are elastic. The advantage of this elasticity is that it moves with facial expressions, preventing a “lumpy appearance” from dermal filler injections in certain other fillers, especially in the lower half of the face.  Silk is used for lip contour enhancement and other fine lines around the face. Lyft is generally used for non-surgical nose jobs and correction of cheek and temple volume loss, and correction of downturned corners of the mouth.

Revanesse Versa: One of the latest additions to dermal filler families is Versa. It has been extensively used at our office with a high degree of satisfaction and somewhat lower price than Juvederm or Restylane.

Radiesse: A very smooth filler with long-lasting results, with a duration of effect of at least 1 year. Very cost-effective for the volume added. This can be used anywhere on the face except for the lips. Another great usage of this filler is for volume restoration to the back of hands.

Sculptra : We have extensively used this dermal filler with succes for facial volume restoration and to add volume to buttocks, yielding beautiful results, and lasting up to 2 years. Other alternatives to this filler include Bellafill and Radiesse..

Fat as dermal filler: Either your own fat or processed fat from donors (Renuva). Yes, that is living tissue without any synthetic material that replaces the lost volume!

NEW dermal fillers or their application:

For loose, saggy skin, injection of a dilute solution of either Radiesse or Sculptra dermal fillers helps, This applies to the face, neck, buttocks, or even to fill the “hip dips’ ‘ for up to 2 years.

If you have loose skin in your buttocks or thighs that looks like cellulite, injection of dilute Scupltra filler is one of the easier ways of addressing it.

Other newer dermal fillers include Versa ( a very versatile filler used for most filling purposes, including the lips), Restylane Kysse (long-lasting, natural, and elastic filler to address smaller lips), and the Swiss-made RHA line of fillers for natural volume restoration that is elastic enough to move with your facial expressions ( to avoid a static “lumpy appearance” after facial filler injections).
