One of the concerns for some people considering dermal fillers is the volume needed to restore shape/freshness, which leads to a high price tag for bigger volumes if dermal fillers are used.
There are 2 solutions to this dilemma:
- Using your own fat from somewhere in your body with an excess deposit of fatty tissue. This approach has the advantage of suing nothing but your own pure naturally occurring fat and doesn’t cost a lot either; and also containing a large number of fat stem cells, which rejuvenate tissues, specially facial skin rejuvenation. The disadvantages are multiple: It needs harvesting the fat with a lipo/mini liposuction, the results are variable from one person to another, and the injected fat follows the behavior of the harvest site. That means it can fluctuate in volume with weight gain and loss.
- A more recent innovation has been the advent of Renuva (or Adipose Tissue Matrix). It is a condensed and freeze-dried fat, harvested from donated bodies. It is easily mixed with saline at the point of use and injected where restoration of volume is needed. Renuva is a product which is thoroughly cleaned, screened for communicable disease, and allergen free. The results have been excellent with very predictable volume restoration, and reproducibility. The prices are also affordable. One downside of Renuva is that it becomes expensive for volumes larger than 10 ml of restoration. Although this is a trade off for reliability and reproducibility. Renuva is gradually replacing the long-lasting synthetic dermal fillers (such as Bellafill), and medium-lasting ones such as Sculptra, with great results and comparable or less cost. The results are natural. How does Renuva, which has no living cells in it_ achieve those results? The secret is the fat matrix in Renuva, which transforms your natural skin stem cells into new fat cells. These new fat cells are not easily affected by overall weight fluctuations.
